To My Leading Man...

...this post was made, with lots and lots of love,
especially for you:

Happy 57th birthday! You are 57!
Would you consider yourself old yet? :)

Growing up with you as my father is something that I cannot even begin to explain. While we are completely different people, our similarities are scary at times, and I think that’s why we butted-heads so often…

“My father was often angry when I was most like him.”

That sounds about right, doesn’t it?

Despite our disputes, and our arguments, I am so grateful for our relationship. You are an amazing father, and I am thankful for everything you have done for me. Without you (and Mom) I wouldn't be where I am right now. You two brighten my life, and I'm pretty lucky to have such wonderful parents.

I'm not sure if you know this, but I feel this constant pressure (more of a need) to impress you, to make you interested in what I’m doing. I don’t know where it comes from and it definitely isn’t something that you put on me, but it drives me. You have always been my toughest critic and I guess I feel like if I impress you, then others will be interested too.

When it comes down to it, you and our family mean the world to me, and I wouldn't change a single thing about us. We're quirky, we're loud, we're emotional, and we're García's.

The fact that I share my last name with you, and what it means to me, has become a huge part of who I am. I think I speak for both Lina and myself when I say that our Cuban roots kick major butt. The food, the traditions, the culture, and the amazing trips to Key West to visit family are some of my favorite things in life. Not to mention, I think that I see you happiest when you are experiencing those parts of yourself as well. Thank you for sharing that with our family, and not keeping the Moho and Picadilla secret :)

I look forward to our growing relationship. I look forward to more of our "life" talks. I look forward to all the cool math that I am going to teach you. I look forward to telling you all about my life, my accomplishments, and my failures. But, I look forward most to becoming more like (the good parts) of you :)

I love you, Dad, and I hope you have a great birthday :)

Love Always,
Lydia (your favorite daughter ♥ )
